Crown Paradise Cancun Resort (Cancun Hotel Zone)

The kids' pool area was the best we have ever seen. The beach and pools were beautiful. The staff were friendly. The family entertainment was a lot of fun. Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort & Spa (Riviera Maya)

My daughter and I were at this hotel from 07/02 - 07/11. When we arrived we were greeted so warmly that I knew that we had made the right choice. We did upgrade to the Jr. Suite for a small add'l charge and it was well worth it. We had a king size bed, walk in shower and mini fridge which they stocked with water and soda every day. We also had an outside tub which my daughter loved. The grounds are all very well kept and the staff always seems to be cleaning. My daughter (who is 10) loved to say Hola to every staff member and she was greeted with a smile and a Hola every single time. The majority of the visitors were couples or families but as a single parent family we were treated no differently which I really appreciated. The resort is situated on the beach and has very easy access. There is a sister property and you have full access to all of their amenities including their restaurants and bars. We spent most of our time experiencing the sites of Mexico however on a few days we spent time at their various pools. There is one pool which houses a volleyball net; another larger pool focuses on various activities throughout the day. The activities directors were great and always full of energy. If you are looking for a quieter pool go to the main pool on the sister property. This pool has a swim up Margarita bar and was nice and quiet. I will say that toward the end of our vacation the pools seemed a little cloudy. Just a little tip, people place their towels to mark their lounge chair territory very early in the day. This is an all inclusive property but I do have a couple of gripes about the food. The first is that they have four specialty restaurants and do require a reservation. We stayed for 9 nights and only received 3 reservation tickets. The specialty restaurants are Japanese, Italian, Grill and Mexican. Since we only had three tickets we passed on the Mexican restaurant. The food and service at the specialty restaurants was amazing but again we only had three opportunities to have food at these restaurants. There are two main buffets which pretty much serve the same stuff and a small snack bar. The food and variety was okay but my daughter did not find much to eat. If you are coming strictly for the food then you may think twice. The weather was so hot and beautiful that neither of us really wanted to eat much anyway so I personally don’t place a whole lot of weight on this area. The few cocktails that I had were fruity and did not seem watered down. There are so many off site things to do. We went on a zip line excursion through the Selvatica group. This was amazing and the staff was so great. We both felt safe the entire time and my daughter even rode upside down. We also went horseback riding, snorkeling and kayaking. The highlight of my daughter’s trip was the Royal Dolphin swim through Dolphin Discovery. This is only a 10 minute walk from the resort. We spent a day at X-Caret which is an incredible eco park and a must see. We also took a trip into the Yucatan to see the ruins at Chichen Itza. Warning, this is a 16 hour round trip but if you are into the ruins well worth it. I do intend to stay at the Riviera Maya area again and will very likely stay at this resort. The staff was wonderful, the location is perfect, the price is very reasonable and the amenities are vast. ...More Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort & Spa reviews

Superb service. The suite was well worth it. Good food. Great bartenders. Shade hard to find. Great snorkeling on site. Minimal beach - not swimable. Good tennis courts. Very good theatre shows. Loved the bike trip offered by the hotel. We experienced 2 quirks: 1) We were brought to the standard room instead of the suite we had ordered. 2) Electricity in our building was rationed... All in all a great value!...More Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort & Spa reviews

Privilege Aluxes (Isla Mujeres)

Privildge Aluxes in Isla Mujeres is a wonderful find and a must place to visit. The resort is not completely finished but each day the management opens more rooms and the day we were leaving the third resturant was near open. The rooms were extravagant, the resort beautiful and the staff so very friendly. We only had the bed and breakfast plan, and breakfast was very nice. My recommendation is for you to put the Privildge Aluxes on your to do list, just a perfect compliment to this little island of paradise!...More Privilege Aluxes reviews

Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort & Spa (Riviera Maya)

Our stay at the Catalonia, Riviera Maya was perfect. The specialty restaurants were elegant and delicious; the buffet was very good, lots of variety; and the snack bar was great for the kids who needed to eat frequently. We did the $25/day room upgrade and felt it was worth it. We had a spacious room with deck and tub on the deck. The beach was beautiful white sand and there was terrific snorkeling right off the beach. We also used the complimentary kayaks frequently, as well as the HobyCat rides. Regardless of where we were, the staff was very attentive. We used the workout facility part of the Spa - nice new equipment, air conditioned, classes. Had the weather been not so perfect, we would have spent a day in the Spa itself - incredible pool with waterfalls, quiet, relaxing sitting area, sauna, etc. If you're expecting quiet, definitely stay on the "riviera maya" side of the property, rather than in the sister property. If you want games, action and loud music, the sister property would be a good fit. We were four adults and two children and there was plenty for all of us to enjoy. In fact, we left the property only once to walk into Puerto Aventuras. We all look forward to another vacation there!...More Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort & Spa reviews

Avalon Grand Cancun Hotel (Cancun Hotel Zone)

We arrived very late, but it was no trouble getting our room and our bags carried up the two floors of the villa style hotel (no elevators). The hotel is very quaint; nicely decorated; and the view from our room was extraordinary - you could host a party on the wraparound balcony that overlooks the georgeous blue water. Staff was wonderful, and the only downside to the entire stay (not the hotel staff's fault) was the misunderstanding in the store inside the hotel. Buyer beware! Anyway, it was a great stay, and a great value for the stay. I would definitely stay there again - the all-inclusive package is well worth it if you plan on having corona or margaritas by the infinity pool and eating meals on site. Speaking of meals, the Mexican night buffet was fabulous! The breakfast delivered via room service was fast and the best I've had! (Didn't eat at the restaurant). Days earlier, we stayed at a hotel that charged more than 3X the price, and although the hotel and the rooms themselves were more ornate, the quality of the food and the overall good time was comparable. If we do it again, I would stay here and be able to extend my vacation by many days for the savings!...More Avalon Grand Cancun Hotel reviews

Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort & Spa (Riviera Maya)

My husband, myself and my cousin have been going to Hotel Catalonia Riveria Maya, for the last two years. It has been the most relaxing vacation ever. The beach is beautiful and the water is aqua. The food and activities are great. The staff for the activities are outstanding and make you feel special. I am very conderned about the security of the saft in the room. My cousin locked herself out and needed the services of the hotel to get back in. The front desk send a locksmith to unlock the saft so she could get into it and reset it. Opon opening the safe, I took a picture of the man and my cousin in front of the safe. There was a case with Cultured Pearls in it on top. The lock smith left and my cousin reset the safe. In about 10 minutes we left for the beach. As we went outside the locksmith was still there messing around the plants. We asked for a picture sence he was there and than went to the beach. In a few days our vacation was over, we packed and left for the airport. Apon arrival at home my cousin called to tell me the stran of Cultured Pearls that were our Aunts, were gone. She said when she took everything out of the saft and put it in her little carry on bag she never looked inside, because she new she never took them out of the safe at the hotel. I brought them to her from Md. On the travel to home she had the little carry on bag with her at all times. My cousin contacted the hotel and she got no help. So are the safes in the room secure to put our valuebles in??? We are also concerned about the managements lack of concern. We may not go back because of this. And what a shame that would be....More Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort & Spa reviews

The Royal in Cancun (Cancun Hotel Zone)

Our week spent at the Royal Cancun was the most relaxing and enjoyable week ever. All the staff were friendly and helpful, the pools were kept very clean, and everything was beautiful. Our room was well air-conditioned, clean, and well furnished. I loved the balcony, and I think it's great that every room in the resort has an ocean view. We were in room 539 - near the end on the south side (quiet side) of the resort. It was away from the elevators and we never had noise problems at all. The variety and quality of the food was also commendable. We would love to return to the Royal Cancun someday. There is no doubt in my mind that we'll be guaranteed a pleasant stay in Cancun if we return to the resort....More The Royal in Cancun reviews

Avalon Baccara Cancun Hotel (Cancun Hotel Zone)

We spent a short week at the Avalon Baccara May 1st through May 8th. Quite simply, The Baccara is perfect. That may be a relative term, but the privacy, serenity and unique charm of this hotel makes it an oasis amongst the giant mega resorts. Boasting 25 rooms, each with different authentic Mexican décor, the Baccara is a sanctuary for relaxation. We stayed in room 406, the honeymoon suite, which is on the top floor. There are 20 foot cathedral ceilings, a full kitchen, 1 balcony facing the street side lagoon and another fantastic balcony with a hot tub with sweeping views of the unrivaled Caribbean Sea. There were 47 steps from the lobby up to the suite, and steps remained a theme throughout the stay. There’s steps to get to the pool, to the ocean, to the pool bar, even steps inside the room to get up to the bathroom and kitchen. Our calves were feeling the effects after the first day, but quickly got used to climbing stairs several times a day. If you’re physically challenged in any way, the Baccara might not be for you. However my wife and I are quite fit, and since training was not on the honeymoon agenda, the steps provided quick bursts of cardio throughout the week. The views at the Baccara are incredible. They’re everywhere you turn; the lobby, the restaurant, the pool area, the outdoor area. Simply amazing. THE BEACH AT THE BACCARA IS PERFECT. Cancun had major beach erosion from hurricane Wilma. In fact, the sister resort Avalon Grand is just 200 yards away and has no beach, but the Baccara had a good 30 yards of beach and it was NEVER crowded. We had way more beach than we needed. The pool is gorgeous. Mexican tiled designs, plenty of chairs, an awesome swim up bar, shaded beds to lie on and undisturbed views of the amazing ocean. The most unbelievable aspect was the privacy. Our first full day we had the pool area all to ourselves from 8am to 2pm, and the most people I ever counted at the pool at one time was 24. My wife turned to me at one point and commented that Hollywood stars probably pay thousands per night to get the privacy we had. The staff was unforgettable. They were quick and attentive to our needs and we made friendships that will last a life time. Isias and Rafeal were awesome, Juan at the pool bar makes a mean drink, Christy at the front desk was crucial to our logistics when venturing out of the resort. The key is to tip well the first few days. I took about 100 dollars in 1’s I had been saving up for some time, and we had fantastic personalized service. We opted for All Inclusive, and with the amount of alcohol we consumed it was quite well worth it. They had Jose Quervo, Smirnoff vodka, Bacardi Rum and several other local Mexican tequilas. Corona was the only beer they served. The food was mediocre at best. The lunch menu consisted of club sandwiches, fajitas, nachos, burgers and a few other things. Dinner was decent but repetitive. Breakfast was nice, they have a small café with seating on the boulevard and Juan Carlos is an amazing waiter. My advice, stay and play at the Baccara and eat at the sister resort just steps away, the Avalon Grand. The food at the Grand was top notch, and you could eat there for no additional charge. The only issue we had at The Baccara was the water went out one night right before dinner. I took the 47 steps down to the front desk and they quickly set us up with a room at the Grand 100 yards up the street. We walked down there and showered in a very nicely contemporary style room. The entire experience was phenomenal. The value at the Baccara was unbeatable, and we cannot wait to go back and enjoy some daiquiris at the beach bar. Tell Isias that Mateo and Victoria says, QUE PASA!!! ...More Avalon Baccara Cancun Hotel reviews

Avalon Reef Club (Isla Mujeres)

The atmosphere is not what we Americans associate with Cancun. There is no Bubba Gump's Shrimp Co., Senior Frog's, Outback Steakhouse, or Starbuck's on the island (thank god). Why on earth would you want to go to another country only to be surrounded by American businesses? It's insane. All stupid American ranting aside... The Avalon is a very laid back and relaxing hotel. It is romantic, and the island is unspoiled by the hideousness mentioned above. We will be back and will bring our kids next time. The staff, while at times absent, were very friendly and helpful. One hint: find an internet cafe in town. The rates to use it at the hotel are outrageous and the connection is very slow....More Avalon Reef Club reviews

Hacienda Paradise (Playa del Carmen)

This was my third visit to Playa del Carmen, and first at the Hacienda Paradise. I must say that I was very pleased with the hotel and staff. Everybody at the hotel was very polite (except the cafe waiter, since he seemed to have an attitude towards guests and was cranky the times that we had our breakfasts. Maybe it was a bad week for him.) I will definitely recommend this hotel to whomever is visiting Playa, and I will continue to keep it as an option for further visits as well. Their best feature is that their drapes and curtains allow little to no light to go into the rooms, allowing night crawlers like myself to have a good sleep during the day hours. Cleanliness is also a good virtue. Anyways, I could probably bore you to death with further details. In the end, it is a good hotel with attentive staff.
