Tulum is the northern gate to the Biosphere Reserve of Sian Ka’an. You can visit some parts of this highly controlled reserve but only escorted by government bonded guide. Myriads of Birds, small Reptiles, Crocodiles, Mangrove Forests, Lagoons and wetlands are some of the endemic and unique attractions of this splendorous natural jewel. In 1987 Sian Ka’an was named a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
